Audition time!

For many dancers, the new year spells auditions, recalls and dance, dance, dance! Auditions can be a daunting process, so it is important you are ultimately prepared and ready for anything the audition panel may ask of you. Before your audition, make sure you have prepared dance pieces which are appropriate for your ability and show your unique skills as a dancer. Make sure you practice this piece until it is perfect, and not just in your living room! This will make the piece flat, so remember to try performing in an appropriately sized space, in the outfit you will be wearing on audition day. Make sure you are completely prepared by having copies of everything you might need, just in case! Also remember to keep the body hydrated, and be dressed comfortably but appropriately. When you're at your audition, remember to keep calm! Make sure you arrive early in order to be comfortable in your surroundings and find your way around before warming up ahead of your audition. It is important to stay focused on what you're doing and not get distracted by the other dancers; their audition will be completely different to yours so it is equally as important not to compare yourself to others. The audition panel may want you to only present some of what you have prepared, or they may ask for more, so ensure you have extra material prepared just in case. Most importantly, enjoy yourself! Following your audition, reflect accurately on how the audition went, but remember the panel may not agree. Don't take audition results personally if you are not pleased with the result. There is no way of knowing all the factors that came into play in the decision-making process. It is often possible to get feedback from the panel if you request it, in order for you to build on your performance for next time!
