Avant Garde Dance Umbrella
The annual festival celebrating dance and new work, Dance Umbrella is set to hit the capital in the autumn with a huge programme of dance to delight audiences in a number of unique venues. This year Dance Umbrella has handed over the programming reins to Tony Adigun, the Artistic Director of Avant Garde Dance, inviting him to put together his own artistic programme for one night only.
For Dance Umbrella, Adigun's programming will result in The Factory, an immersive, loud and informal night of dance, fashion, art and music – a Festival within the Festival which is ultimately exciting for the artists involved and the audiences attending. Whilst Dance Umbrella regularly produces entertaining and innovative programmes of dance throughout the annual festival, 2015 will see a shake up on the form of Adigun, introducing even more new aspects to the leading event.
Joining his company Avant Garde will be a number of different artists and performers, including visual artist Leanza-May, Neon Dance, BBC Young Dancer finalist for hip hop Kieran Lai, designer Bettina John and performance artists .2Dot. The headline DJ for the evening will be Tramp Häus Collective, and there will be a new piece created by Adigun himself, called The Dinner. Throughout the evening the proceedings will be accompanied by special audio-visuals, as well as some surprise guests on the night; as a result The Factory promises to be a fantastic party evening.
Tony Adigun has danced since he was child and has worked with some of the best known performers around, such as Mel B, Janet Jackson, Usher and Whitney Houston. As well as being a Work Place Artist at The Place, Adigun regularly teaches and mentors young dancers, and is currently the Creative Director of Sky TV competition Got To Dance.
