Beginning to ballroom
Beginning ballroom dancing adds another string to your dancing bow. The practice can be laborious however the return on your investment is vast and rewarding. Ballroom dance, whilst it is historical, offers so many lessons that can be applied outside of dance, lending itself to personal development in many areas.
The repetitive practice of ballroom dance to ensure the steps are ingrained in muscle memory means that eventually the steps will become a natural way of moving and part of the body. The repetition of practising over and over demonstrates commitment to the cause, as a conscious repetitive habit. The passion to improve as a dancer then translates to life, you concentrate more and more fully on practice and performance. This passion will be evident to others around you, in your dedication to dance.
Ballroom dance requires trusting your partner, regardless of whether you are the leader or the follower. If you are the follower, trusting your partner to navigate around other couples in the ballroom and to lead you through the steps becomes second nature, even if it is not easy to trust others in everyday life. In an extension of that, do not be scared to make mistakes - literally too! Life is about learning, as is ballroom dance - and success will only come if you accept making the wrong move. The more you dance the less this will happen, and less toes will be trodden on too.
Keeping moving around the floor when dancing can also be applied to life. No matter what is thrown at you or what gets you down, remember it is important to keep going. Being persistent is key in order to make it through the problem and improve, and it is just that first step back in the right direction to get you back on the right track.
