Broadway musical Memphis to open!
The Shaftesbury Theatre in London's Theatreland will play host to Broadway hit musical Memphis from 9 October, with singer and The Bodyguard star Beverley Knight to play the character ‘Felicia’. The musical is the winner of four 2010 Tony Awards® including Best New Musical, and it's Grammy® Award-winning original score is by David Bryan, founding member of Bon Jovi. Opening night is set to be 23 October.
Inspired by true events from the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis, Tennessee, Memphis follows the fame and forbidden love of a radio DJ who wants to change the world and a club singer who is ready for her big break. Including the powerhouse funk of James Brown, the hot guitar riffs of Chuck Berry, the smooth harmonies of the Temptations and the silken, bouncy pop of the great girl groups of the period, the musical is set to please the ears.
