We’re really excited here at Dancewear Central, because next month sees the Dance Umbrella Festival grace the streets of London once again!
The Dance Umbrella Festival is a unique and exciting experience that pushes the boundaries of modern dance. Dancers of all ages show off some of their best moves, and take their audience on a journey of wonderment and emotion, and here at Dancewear Central we just can’t wait!
This international dance festival celebrates the best of 21st century dance across the capital, with artists reflecting the modern world using a range of dance styles and techniques.
The festival began in 1978, and in that time has showcased over 700 artists to an audience of over a million people. In 2013, dancer Emma Gladstone was appointed artistic director, and has brought with her the mantra of ‘take dance out and bring the audiences in’.
It’s not just long-term dancers that are involved in the festival. The Dance Umbrella Festival also supports the Arts Award, a range of qualifications that help young people under the age of 25 to develop and share their creative talents. These young people are given the opportunity to see behind the scenes and learn how a dance festival really works.
There are a variety of events happening and each one is a chance for up-and-coming artists to perform and share their work.
There are tickets still available so book now for the Dance Umbrella Festival 2016. In the meantime, check out this year's trailer below:
