English National Ballet's Emerging Dancer

4979021678_2eb5fe7f32_bTaking place at the London Palladium on 17 May, English National Ballet's Emerging Dancer is back for 2016 to showcase the upcoming talent of the company. It will be the first time the Emerging Dancer competition has been held at the Palladium, having taken place for six consecutive years previous at venues such as the Lyceum Theatre and the Southbank Centre. The competition is vital to English National Ballet’s commitment to developing and nurturing dancers' talent within the company. The Emerging Dancer event is a true crowd-pleaser, presenting each dancer as a soloist and then in a pas de deux context. It sees six finalists perform in front of a panel of eminent judges, with the Emerging Dancer Award announced at the end of the evening, alongside the recipient of the People’s Choice Award, which is voted for by members of the public ahead of the competition. The six finalists have been revealed. Isabelle Brouwers trained at English National Ballet School and joined the company soon after graduating in 2014. Since joining the Company she has performed in Swan Lake, Nutcracker, and Le Corsaire, and was an Emerging Dancer finalist in 2015. She won silver at the 2013 Genée International Ballet Competition. Jeanette Kakareka joined English National Ballet in 2013, having graduated from San Francisco Ballet School. She has performed in Swan Lake, Rudolf Nureyev’s Romeo & Juliet, and Liam Scarlett’s No Man’s Land. In 2015 she was also an Emerging Dancer finalist. Rina Kanehara is the youngest dancer in the Company, having trained at the Princess Grace Academy, Monaco; she joined English National Ballet after winning the Prix de Lausanne 2015. Cesar Corrales joined English National Ballet in 2014 and was promoted to Junior Soloist at the end of the 14/15 season. He has gone on to perform in the roles of Mercutio in Rudolf Nureyev’s Romeo & Juliet, the Nephew in Nutcracker, and as Ali and Birbanto in Le Corsaire. Daniele Silingardi joined the Company in 2013 upon graduating from the Royal Ballet Upper School. He has performed the role of Paris in Romeo & Juliet, in Second Breath by Russell Maliphant, and Dust by Akram Khan. Erik Woolhouse trained at the Royal Ballet Upper School and joined English National Ballet last year. He has so far performed in Romeo & Juliet, and the Russian dance in Nutcracker.
