Exciting news for Frozen fans!
Disney Theatrical Productions has announced the highly anticipated cast of Frozen: The Broadway Musical.
The production is scheduled to open in Spring 2018 at the St. James Theatre in New York; this will follow its pre-Broadway premiere at the Buell Theatre within the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, starting on 17 August.
Who will play who?
Caissie Levy, known for starring in Ghost, Wicked, and the 2014 revival of Les Misérables on Broadway, will play Elsa, the character behind the hit song “Let It Go.” Her sister Anna will be played by Patti Murin, who has previously graced Broadway stages in the original productions of Lysistrata Jones and Xanadu.
The character of Kristoff will be played by Broadway newcomer Jelani Alladin, while Olaf will be brought to life by Greg Hildreth, who has previously starred in Cinderella and Peter and the Star catcher, also on Broadway. Hans will be played by John Riddle while the Duke of Weselton will be Robert Creighton, who previously starred in The Little Mermaid and Anything Goes on the Great White Way.
Frozen: The Broadway Musical will be directed by Michael Grandage, a Tony Award winner and director of three Olivier Award winning Outstanding Musicals. The musical will be choreographed by Tony Award winner Rob Ashford, known for his work on Thoroughly Modern Millie, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Curtains. Ashford also choreographed the live-action film version of Cinderella.
Music and lyrics are by the originators of the Frozen animated film score, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. The book will be by Jennifer Lee (Zootopia and Wreck-It Ralph), who was the Frozen animated film screenwriter and director (with Chris Buck). The design team for Frozen includes scenic and costume designer Christopher Oram (a Tony and Olivier Award winner), lighting design by six-time Tony Award winner Natasha Katz (Aladdin), and sound design by four-time Tony nominee Peter Hylenski.
We hope it comes over to the UK very soon!
