Hong Kong opportunity
Put your ballet shoes on....Hong Kong Arts Festival and BNP Paribas have entered into a partnership meaning Scottish Ballet and dance moves by Matthew Bourne can come together for a students in 2014 Artists-in-Residence Project.
The project, presented by Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) and sponsored by BNP Paribas, will provide a valuable opportunity for students from three local secondary schools in Hong Kong to learn contemporary ballet from the internationally acclaimed Scottish Ballet.
The annual Artists-in-Residence Project invites one international artist ensemble featured in each Hong Kong Arts Festival to provide in-depth workshops where students explore their creativity and artistic potential. Performing Matthew Bourne’s Highland Fling during the 42nd Hong Kong Arts Festival in the spring of 2014, Scottish Ballet is the national dance company of Scotland with a broad repertoire of both classical and contemporary works, a long history of international touring, and extensive experience in providing dance education programmes for young people.
Under their guidance, participating students will go through a series of workshops over 5 months based on creative tasks developed by choreographer Matthew Bourne, producing a piece of new choreography based on the themes, narrative and movement style taken from Highland Fling. They will experiment with creative movement, gain better understanding of contemporary dance techniques, as well as explore the characterisation aspect of Highland Fling and experience how original characters and environments can be created and developed. Participants will showcase what they have learnt from the project to the public in 2014 at Olympian City and to the students of three participating schools. What a great opportunity for these students to work with such a prestigious ballet company.
