Paula Abdul launches a National Dance Championship
Paula Abdul, former American Idol and The X Factor Judge has launched a National Dance Championship in the United States. Going by the name Ignite! Spark The Movement, the initiative will give aspiring dancers the chance to compete for national recognition and cash prizes whilst becoming a pupil under Abdul and a group of supporting A-list judges who have yet to be named.
Abdul hopes to engage participants from across the country to compete in this prestigious one-of-a-kind cheer and dance championship, paying homage to how big the dance scene is becoming all over the world. With many televised performance competitions dominated by dance, it is clear that more and more teachers, students and spectators are interested in the competitive side of dance. Ignite! Spark The Movement will be launched on 3 January 2013 and is Abdul’s latest venture. Here she is continuing in her efforts to take the world of dance to wider audiences in launching this exciting new dance championship.
Abdul is not only one of the music world’s most innovative entertainers but she is also a singer, songwriter, dancer, choreographer, actress and television personality. She began her career as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers before becoming a prominent and highly sought-after choreographer in the 1980s at the height of the music video era. Abdul then went on to secure pop music hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and later sat as a judge on American Idol in the 2000s. Following this Abdul was a judge on the first season of the American version of The X Factor. She was also a guest judge on the All Stars edition of Dancing with the Stars in 2012 and the tenth season of So You Think You Can Dance in 2013.
