Pippin set to return!

Stacey MacNaught |

The critically acclaimed and Tony-nominated Broadway musical Pippin will launch a US national tour in September 2014 as announced by producers Bart and Fran Weissler and Howard and Janet Kagan. Pippin is a coming of age musical comedy which features choreography by Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse – who directed the original Broadway production – a musical production of Roger O Hirson and Stephen Schwartz which is currently playing at the Music Box Theatre in New York City, US. Pippin is returning to the touring stage for the first time since it first thrilled audiences 40 years ago. The beloved score by Tony Award nominee Schwartz accompanies the tale of a young prince on a death-defying journey to find meaning in his existence, questioning whether he will choose a happy but simple life, or whether he will risk everything for a singular flash of glory. Using the premise of a mysterious performance troupe, Pippin the Prince searches for his significance through the Leading Player. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U2Ji5-MebA The production is one to be in considerate awe of: Pippin led the winners of the 2013 Outer Critics’ Circle Awards, with 7 wins including Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Director of a Musical and Outstanding Choreographer amongst many other acclaimed awards. The show has also received 10 Tony nominations including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performances, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Choreography, and many more. Pippin has also been nominated for a many Drama Desk awards, including Outstanding revival of a Musical, Outstanding Director and Outstanding Choreography, and also for Drama League nominations including Outstanding revival of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Musical, and the Distinguished Performance Award. With it's circus revamp, it's a fresh and lively production and the press have been more than complimentary, The New York Times saying it's, "Astonishing. A Pippin for the 21st century. Dazzling and Awe-inspiring!" Hope it comes over here so we can shout, "Pip, Pip Hooray!"
