Rambert Revealed
Rambert, one of Britain's most celebrated dance companies, is offering a peek behind the scenes as part of a week of public events at its headquarters in London. Lauded by some as Britain's national dance company, Rambert came under fire this year for its lack of innovation and risk in its work, performing past repertoire rather than embracing new.
Despite this, Rambert Revealed will see the dance company throw open its doors to the general public - as it did when it's new building was opened on the capital's south bank - and will present events including open rehearsals, archive film screenings, school events and more. From 12-17 October the dance company will be open for view, with priority booking for Rambert Supporters already open. For the general public, booking opened at 10am, Monday 7 September.
Rambert Revealed includes a number of exciting and unique events as part of the programme. Perhaps the most unique opportunity is the chance to meet Rambert's artistic director Mark Baldwin, and to watch the dancers in company class on Monday 12 October, for free. For budding or even well-established teachers, 12 October can also see the audience take part in an A-level teachers' event with Christopher Bruce, with his repertoire included on the syllabus. Rounding up the first day is the session providing an insight to A Linha Curva, one of Rambert's most energetic and uplifting works.
Throughout the rest of the week the events include a day of dance for students, an open rehearsal with Dane Hurst (one of Rambert's most acclaimed dancers), the chance to watch a Transfigured Night orchestra rehearsal, a special 'Marie Rambert This is Your Life (1962)', a contemporary club class, a general introduction to Rambert and another opportunity to watch company class.
