Get Ready to Peform! The Big Dance Pledge 2014.
The Big Dance Pledge 2014 is almost upon us. On May 16th people from all across the country will be pointing their toes, shimmying, tapping and boogeying for charity as part of the Glasgow’s 2014 Cultural Programme. With only one week to go you better hurry up, learn the dance or make up your own, and get ready to perform!
The Big Dance was established in 2006 as the UK’s biggest celebration of dancing. Held every two years, this year as well as the Big Dance Week ballerinas, street dancers, tappers, even dad dancers will be bopping along as part of the fifth annual Big Dance Pledge to raise money for UNICEF and the Foundation for Community Dance. The money raised will be used to fund cultural projects across the world, provide the resources to allow children in under-developed countries the opportunity to gain a better education and support the Big Dance’s micro-grant projects, which will develop and create new dance experiences for children and young people to enjoy during the Big Dance Weekend (July 12th-13th). The Scottish Ballet’s education team has already been out to India to teach children there their Big Dance Pledge routine.
As Glasgow gears up for the Commonwealth Games the Big Dance Pledge has got involved by going global. With the help of British Council schoolchildren across the world will be able to take part. So there is no excuse not to be dancing along next week whatever your age, ability or dance style. Just visit the Big Dance Learn the Pledge page to follow their tutorials, then on May 16th at either 1pm or 7pm you can join the ‘unique wave of dancing across the world’. If you don’t have your ballet shoes handy at this time don’t worry you can complete your routine beforehand. In fact the Big Dance Pledge already have some inspirational performance videos on their website. Dancewear Central’s favourite has to be the Bollylicious dancers.
