Resolution! 2014
From Tuesday 14 January to Saturday 15 February, The Place will host Resolution, the biggest annual showcase for contemporary dance in the UK. 2014 sees it celebrate 25 years of bringing fresh, new dance to the stage, with the festival presenting an exciting, unpredictable programme once again. There are triple bills every night showcasing 72 companies over 24 days. These short dance pieces offer multiple chances to sample a diverse range of styles and genres from cutting edge dance artists.
At the heart of Resolution is experimentation. For dance makers the festival provides a safe environment to show new work to an audience for the first time, with festival alumni of the platform including Wayne McGregor, Hofesh Shechter, Kate Prince and more recently James Wilton, James Cousins, and Eva Recacha. It seems there is much talent to be discovered at The Place in the new year.

The festival was created in 1990 by The Place’s former Theatre Director John Ashford; it is the major platform in the UK for facilitating the difficult transition from vocational dance training to the professional performance world. By the end of this 25th year Resolution! will have presented over 1,909 dance companies, a key part of which is what happens off the stage and behind the scenes. Supported by The Place’s professional team, Resolution companies not only receive technical advice in one of the best resourced dance theatres of its kind, but also take part in a series of workshops. These are designed to provide a comprehensive insight into all aspects of the profession, from lighting and design, to press, marketing and social media.
For some the most exciting thing about Resolution is the one thing that has stayed the same over the last 25 years: The ethos of supporting new choreography and ideas.
