Rumours are already circulating as to who might be on the line-up this year. Supposedly high on the producer’s wish list is Shane Richie, best known for playing Alfie Moon in EastEnders, and Georgia May Foote from Coronation Street. Apparently, Louis Walsh and Perez Hilton have also expressed an interest, while there are speculations that TV hosts Richard Madeley and Dermot O’Leary will be donning a sequin shirt in the near future. It has even been joked, albeit by his wife, that Ed Balls former Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer will be following his fellow politician, and former leader of the Liberal Democrats, Vince Cable’s example in learning to foxtrot. After all in the interest of fairness and impartiality the BBC has to show that all parties can cha-cha. Having filled the compulsory athlete slot with rugby players over the last few years, it is believed that the producers have been chasing a footballer for the 2015 line-up. Dion Dublin, former England player and host of Homes under the Hammer, has already been approached but turned down the offer. It is thought that player-turned-pundit Jermaine Jenas or former Bolton Wanderers player, and star of Strictly’s Christmas Special in 2012, may have been asked instead. As always the producers aren’t giving anything away, so we will just have to wait until the end of summer to be sure.
Strictly has already announced its’ professional line-up however, and this year the Strictly regulars will be joined by three new professionals: Dancing with the Star’s favourite Gleb Savchenko, Italian Champion (2012) Giovanni Pernice and eight-time South African Latin American Champion Otlile Mabuse. Unfortunately Iveta Lukosiute, who came to the rescue in season 10 after Aliona Vilani had to drop out due to injury, and last year’s newby Trent Whiddon will not be returning this year. Much to the disappointment of his huge fan base Robin Windsor, although recovered from his back injuries which forced him to sit out the last series, will not be featured in the professional line-up. Ola Jordan however, who is recently recovered from a skiing accident sustained while producing the Channel Four show The Jump, is back in the ballroom along with her fellow female stars Janette Manarara, Aliona Vilani, Kristina Rihanoff, Natalie Lowe, Karen Hauer and Joanne Clifton. Brendan Cole, Tristan MacManus, Aljaž Škorjanes, Anton Du Beke, Pasha Kovalev and Kevin from Grimsby will also be returning.
