The Ultimate Danceathon
Save the Children’s Ultimate Danceathon is back! From October 5th to October 13th across the country people will be tying on their ballet slippers, lacing up their tap shoes and taking on the five hour challenge to raise money, which will help provide children in over 120 countries with medical care, food and a decent education.
Save the Children was established in May 1919 to raise money for children who had suffered as a result of WWI. Since then they have sought to provide relief to children escaping famine, war and poverty in the UK, Africa, Asia, South America and the Middle East. Most recently they have been working in Syria to bring food and medicine to refugee camps. In 2010 Save the Children were able to help three million children because of money raised through running, baking, cycling, fancy dress and of course dancing!
The Ultimate Danceathon is a great way to get involved and help a worthwhile cause. All you have to do is find a space where you can point your twinkle toes, whether it be a studio, the park or your living room, then get your friends involved and start dancing. Those who manage to raise over £300 will be put into a draw to win a stay at the Goring Hotel in London’s Belgravia and have afternoon tea with the Dancing Queen herself Arlene Phillips. No matter what you manage to raise though it will make a huge difference; just ten pounds can buy the medicine needed to save 27 children from life-threatening diarrhoea. Having two left feet is no excuse either! You can always have a Wii Dance tournament or go old school and pull out the dancemat.
Throughout the country there are also lots of events that will be incorporating the Save the Children Ultimate Danceathon if you don’t fancy hosting a ballet or street dancing marathon yourself. In London there will be a ten hour extravaganza on Saturday 6th October complete with family workshops, competitions and showcases. If you do want to hold your own event though there is still plenty of time, click here to sign up!
