Beverley Knight to star in Cats
It has been confirmed that pop star Beverley Knight is going to star as Grizabella when the hit musical Cats is going to return to the London Palladium later this year. Knight is currently starring in Memphis the Musical alongside co-star Killian Donnelly, who's set to star in new musical for the West End, Kinky Boots. The announcement ironically comes soon after a joint interview with Knight and Donnelly, in which they both expressed their ultimate love for Memphis with starring in it for the foreseeable future, and how no other musical would live up to it.
Knight will join the cast of Cats in October when the iconic musical returns to the capital after a stint in Blackpool with an exciting new cast. Following her critically acclaimed performances in The Bodyguard and Memphis, the soul singer will play the legendary role when Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical heads south for another limited run in the West End. Lloyd Webber has recently been working on the Broadway launch of his new musical School of Rock, based on the fun film of the same name.

The Palladium run of Cats last year saw another pop star, Nicole Scherzinger, perform the role of Grizabella to critical acclaim, even performing the iconic musical number 'Memory' at the Olivier Awards earlier this year. Musical theatre star Kerry Ellis followed in the paw steps of Scherzinger in playing Grizabella, and songstress Jane McDonald will play the role later this year when the show plays in Blackpool.
Full of exciting names, the new cast of Cats looks set to be a great success, employing established names as well as fresh graduates from musical theatre institutions such as Laine Theatre Arts. Tickets for the run, which plays from 23 October 2015 to 2 January 2016, are on sale now.
