Darcey Bussell's DDMIX
DDMIX - which stands for Diverse Dance Mix - is a new full body aerobic workout programme, devised by former prima ballerina and President of the Royal Academy of Dance, Darcey Bussell, and Nathan Clarke. This exciting new venture holds dance based fitness at its heart, based on a diverse range of easy to follow dance styles. With aims to be stimulating, fun and entertaining, Bussell and Clarke use their extensive knowledge of dance to draw on different dance genres for emphasis on different cardio rates for the body.
For existing dance teachers, DDMIX is an opportunity to enhance business opportunities by potentially becoming a certified DDMIX instructor. Despite being in its early stages, the DDMIX training course is designed to train future DDMIX instructors who will take Bussell's personal project forward. Current buzzwords for dance, such as wellbeing, also fall under the guise of DDMIX, providing a fun dance workout suitable for all ages and walks of life, especially meeting the needs of the adult dance market.

DDMIX incorporates two to three minute stints of different dance styles - from Jive to Salsa to Bollywood - keeping the movements fresh and interesting. Each genre places a different demand on the body and provides a taste of that same style for participants. The short sections are combined to form a longer workout (around 45 to 50 minute programme) with a variety of aerobic levels and complexities. In this sense DDMIX will appeal to a wide audience who are eager to take part but may not have the dance knowledge to supplement a straight dance class.
The core philosophy behind DDMIX is the distraction from the workout by fun and easy to follow aerobic dance moves. In training to become a DDMIX instructor the aims and ethos of the initiative are central to its operation.
