The Oliviers In Concert
The Oliviers In Concert, the theatrical extravaganza celebrating 40 years of the UK’s most illustrious theatre awards, is set to take place in January next year, directed by Maria Friedman. The star will both direct and star in the celebrations, as a three-times Olivier Award winner. She will perform alongside fellow recipients Daniel Evans, Adrian Lester and David Thaxton in the gala concert, on 25 January at the Royal Festival Hall.
The newly announced performers will take to the Southbank Centre venue's stage in the new year to perform an exciting selection of songs from Olivier Award-winning musicals with the BBC Concert Orchestra. Further casting is still to be announced however audiences look set to be in for a treat. The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 meaning it will reach even more people. Taking place in the midst of the theatre awards season, which culminates on 3 April with the Olivier Awards ceremony itself, The Oliviers In Concert promises theatre fans an unmissable evening of musical entertainment.
Friedman has picked up two coveted Best Actress in a Musical accolades during the course of her successful musical career, for her performances in Ragtime and Passion. She also scooped the 1999 Best Entertainment Award for her own concert, Maria Friedman - By Special Arrangement. As a result of this hugely demonstrable skill, the actress will bring her directing streak to the concert, having made her directing debut in 2013 with the Menier Chocolate Factory’s Olivier Award-winning production of Merrily We Roll Along. She since took over the directing helm of the summer’s critically acclaimed production of High Society at The Old Vic.
The Olivier Awards are a highly anticipated theatrical event for the performing arts industry, providing the capital with lots of glamour and sparkle ahead of another year of nominations!
