Scottish Ballet's 2015/16 plans
Scottish Ballet has recently announced its ambitious plans for 2015/16, following two years of choreographic creativity which has seen nine new works staged by the company, and a further 12 added to the repertoire. The company will continue to expand its repertoire.
Three world premieres will include Swan Lake, with choreography by David Dawson, and will tour to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness and Newcastle in April 2016. Dawson has been commissioned to create a new Swan Lake, as his work always pushes dancers to their limits and is renowned for challenging and extending the realms of classical technique. This new commission will ensure that a new generation experiences the timeless story of Swan Lake in a style and choreographic language relevant to the century.

In 2015 Scottish Ballet will also premiere a new work by choreographer Marc Brew. The company will partner with Indepen-dance, a company that produces work for artists with diverse abilities and follows on from a successful choreographic development workshop in June. The companies will fuse to create a world premiere to kick start the Dance International Glasgow Festival. This will be paired with Hans van Manen’s 5 Tangos, last performed by Scottish Ballet in autumn 2012.
Elsa Canasta will be a Scottish Ballet premiere from renowned choreographer Javier de Frutos as a dark and funny evocation of the music of Cole Porter, set to his ballet score Within the Quota and a medley of his songs. De Frutos will re-stage his work with changes in mind to ensure that this version of Elsa Canasta is unique to Scottish Ballet. The European premiere of Cinderella completes the set, with choreography by Christopher Hampson. Cinderella will tour to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Newcastle and Belfast.
